Dr. Kevin Nunley's Biz Tip:
Taking on the Competition

Jesse tells me that she just opened a dry cleaning shop in her town. She is only the second one in the small town's history. The other dry cleaner has been in business for years.

Jesse is having a tough go of it. Try as she may, she can't seem to get anyone to drop their old dry cleaner to try her new one.

Taking a new business up against an established one can be a challenge. Here are some opportunities to look for.

Is your competitor doing everything as well as they could? Are there things that the other guy is doing that may be irritating to customers?

Perhaps he's slow, or high priced, or sometimes rude.

Look for these places to make improvements in your product and service. Then publicize those improvements!

Also find out the things customers like about your competitor. Add those features to your business, and make them bigger and better.

Be sure to blow your own horn. Make your marketing emphasize your improvements and differences between you and your competitor.
