Spend an afternoon at your local library becoming a super expert in
your field. Customers love it when you can quote the latest
statistics, trends and hot ideas. All this is available free at your
big downtown or college library. Ask the reference librarian to help
you. It's amazing how fast they can find what you're looking for.
There are loads of government publications and industry journals
bulging with valuable information that few business people ever look
for (it's where magazines and newspapers get most of their
interesting business facts and graphs).
Spend some time skimming through business books that are a few years
old. They may no longer be on bookstore shelves, but they're probably
full of great ideas that are still fresh. First look at the table of
contents. Zero in on one chapter that talks about a problem your
customers have.
