Are you listening to the radio while you're reading this? As you enjoy the music or news they're playing, I'll just about guarantee you there is a bored DJ sitting on the other end.
That's YOU'RE ticket to FREE media publicity! Radio folks have to churn out programming around the clock every day of the year. They are practically desperate for a way to provide entertaining and interesting content to their audience. No editor or director has to approve the content. In most cases the DJ on duty has a lot of leeway over the entertaining tidbits they air.
If you have an interesting bit of trivia, local news, joke, or cute observation--call the request line and tell the DJ about it. Make it a habit and watch how often your comments make onto the air.
You can't do obvious ads for your business, but you CAN open with "Hi..This is Maureen over at Super Cuts on State Street." In time you will become a recognized radio personality.
I have seen students to construction workers successfully use the technique.
