Dr. Kevin Nunley's Biz Tip:
TV Commercials on the Internet?
The Internet world was wowed recently when At Home, Inc bought Excite
for over $6 Billion dollars. At Home is TCI Cable's Internet service
and Excite is the search engine that became one of the Net's most
popular starting pages.
What's the big deal? TCI Cable has over 300,000 computers hooked up
to the Internet via TV cables. This is a MUCH faster way to see the
Net. Instead of slow loading logos and pictures like most of us sit
through, cable TV modems turn Internet ads into fast-flowing TV commercials.
Excite will offer two different services--one for most of us on the
slower phone modems and another super-charged service for cable modem
users Will this new Internet that is more like TV put all of us
regular web site folks out of business? Not any time soon.
Most consumers will stay with the regular, slower lines for some time
to come. No doubt the future will bring new cheap methods for the
rest of us to make our websites look more like TV. Still, good info
and services will win the day.
