How To Stop Excuses From Killing Your Dreams, Part 1
You are a very creative person. You have the capacity to generate millions and millions things over the course of your life. You know what you spend most of your time creating?
Excuses!
Okay - maybe not YOU, because after all - you're reading this so I know that you are a person of action who truly wants to harness the law of momentum to attain success. But most people out there are absolutely prolific at creating excuses. And if we're really honest we've all been there too to a greater or lesser extent.
See if any of these sound familiar and have killed your momentum and therefore stopped you from getting what you actually deserve out of your life;
I'm too tired.
I've got too many things to do.
I don't have enough time.
I don't have enough money.
Nobody else is doing it.
That's too much hard work.
I'm too old.
I'm too young.
I'm not healthy.
It wouldn't work.
I'm no good at that.
I could never do that.
YOU WERE A KID ONCE RIGHT?
There are millions of these are we're all experts at creating them. You want to know WHY we are all such master experts at creating excuses?
Because we've been doing it since we were kids!
"I don't have it, the dog ate it."
"But HE started it."
"A big boy did it and ran away."
"Johnny told me to do it."
I also think a large part of the EXCUSE CULTURE that exists around us is that there's an underlying belief in society that work is something that gets in the way of rest. This is a seriously messed up attitude to have.
Work is a virtue - the craft of taking your raw energy and the resources around you and creating from that something of value to enrich your life and the lives of others is not only your God-given right it's an absolute privilege. But somewhere along the road we've all turned things around so that we see work as a necessary evil that must be completed to get to the nirvana of; doing nothing, the chill out, the veg fest, the TV dinner.
THE LUXURY OF LAZINESS
Nobody achieved any kind of greatness in this life by 'chilling out' or resting. Sure - you need to recharge your batteries every now again but treat it as an essential - not as a luxury that you aim for.
This is where a lot of excuses stem from. The fear that work or activity of any kind is bad.
The excuses you tell solely to yourself are the worst kind of all. When you try to kid yourself out of a better life - that's when you've really mastered the lazy art of excuses! ?
But what you might be surprised to hear is that you can purposely use excuses to attain success in your life. What could I possibly mean?
You just create new, empowering excuses to support your new habits that are bringing you success. This is what I did when building my multi-million dollar company. Another name for an 'empowering excuse' is a powerful reason.
POWERFUL REASONS TO SUCCEED
So I started feeding myself powerful reasons;
Why should I write a book instead of going to the pub?
Because writing a book will build my reputation, business and equity.
Why should I start reading for an hour a day instead of watching TV?
Because I'll learn more, earn more and be ahead of the competition.
In the next part of this article I'll share with you how you can stop yourself from using excuses to kill your momentum using these three simple steps.
